This was a very personal project, I wanted a tattoo, but since it would be my first I wanted it to have a deep meaning and connection to me. I decided to go with lavender flowers, one of my favourite herbs.
I already had some inspiration going into this project; tattoos other artists had done, specific images of lavender plants, etc. but combining them into a design that was specifically for me was difficult, I had originally sketched and coloured the ‘pose’ I would use in the final about a year before I ended up using it. Eventually, I began working with that sketch, refining it, revisiting the shape and form of the flower. It took me a while to find and research a colour palette that would work well with my skin and would stand out without being extremely vibrant, unlike real lavender. I knew it would be more expensive to have a full colour tattoo with no outlines, but the result would be so much more unique and beautiful. Finally, after rendering, re-rendering, touching up and blending everything to perfection, I had the most perfect tattoo design, and about a month later got it tattooed on me. Since then, I’ve designed 4 of my other tattoos, as well as a couple for clients.
